“The Ghanaian people and I are shocked by the news of the destruction of the great Parisian Cathedral, Notre Dame, one of the most iconic buildings of world civilization and extend our heartfelt condolences to President and to the French people on their great loss,”
“Our thoughts are with them, and we are hopeful and prayerful that efforts to save what is left of this historic Cathedral will be successful.”
Above is the tweet from President Nana Akufo Addo that has landed Ghana a free $39 million from the $339 million donated by two French billionaires towards the rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral.
According to the donors, it’s rare to see a President ignoring flood victims in his own country and rather commiserate with victims of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire which left no casualties.
In a telefax to Akufo Addo, the billionaires expressed shock over the death of Seven following Sunday’s heavy downpour in Accra which they can’t fathom out why the president never tweeted about.
President Akufo-Addo has defended his tweet. “France’s fire is a natural disaster while the Ghana flood is out of negligence”.
