According to Ex-Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Ghana would have won the ongoing mundia in Russia if the country had qualified.

In a telephone interview with Fifa radio in Switzerland, when asked of the chances of an African team winning the world cup in Russia, the former first vice president of Confederation of African Football (CAF) said “The African teams are doing well but can do better to make the continent proud. So far they have all lost due to lack of concentration. In fact five of six goals conceded by Africa at the World Cup came from corners. We lost from corner goals and lack of concentration at the eleventh hour of the game.

He added “Tunisia was supposed to earn a point in their game against the three lions of England but what did we see, another awful defending of a set piece which led to another match-winning goal against the fourth African team in the tournament. My beloved country, Ghana would have won Russia 2018 if we had qualified because we wouldn’t have conceded [excuse my language] cheap goals like our brothers are doing in Russia. I am cocksure Blackstars would have won this world cup, too bad we failed to qualify to make history.”

The Black Stars placed third in group E of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers of the African zone in a group that comprised Egypt, Uganda and Congo.
