The President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo has asked the Minister of Education and his two deputies to go home over the $98m Chinese – BECE Marking deal.

According to the 12-page dismissal letter signed by Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the minister himself along with his deputies Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Barbara Ayisi Acher are to vacate their offices after taking their June salaries and their shares of the $22.5m car loans approved for MPs.

“You are hereby dismissed for referring to satire as fake news. If ministers of Education cannot read and understand, what are students expected to do?” the letter stated.

It is not yet known why dismissed employees would wait to be paid and enjoy other benefits before leaving office but sources close to the ministry says the minister drafted the letter himself.

A satire news website reported yesterday that the government of Ghana has contracted a Chinese firm to mark the just ended BECE for $98m. The ministry released a press statement debunking the untrue story to be fake. Tax payers are angry at the minister and his deputies and ordered for their dismissal.

Meanwhile, a 7-member committee has been paid an undisclosed amount of money to look into the press release.
