Candidates writing 2019 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has been asked by authorities to prepare to write Basic Chinese as their last paper.

This comes as part of the government and China’s effort to incorporate Chinese language in the curriculum of West African schools which form basis of the recent Chinese loan to the country.

Mr. Baffour Gyawu, the head of examinations at the Education Ministry said the candidates will be taken through Chinese lessons a day before the paper.

“You need to write this paper to gain admissions and scholarships into Chinese schools and even into Universities in West Africa funded by the Chinese government”, Mr. Baffour said.

All Universities in West Africa are funded by the Chinese.
